Time Is Some-
where, but not Here
Time Is Somewhere, but Not Here
Time is Somewhere, but Not Here consists of two sculptures facing each other diagonal accross in a space. The installation shows an attempt for dialogue; a conversation that might happen only in the imagined space in between.
Both sculptures belong to the same family and derive from one object – a typewriter machine. Whereas the small sculpture uses original elements of the former typewriter the larger one is composed of long metal poles, bend at their ends. The shape of the poles is an abstraction of components of the typewriter, thin small elements which connect the letter hammers with the keys. They are the connectors, the ones that hold everything together, representing function and control. The invisible are exposed here, power of structure, extracted and enlarged. In contrast to the machine, the elements are in disorder. All of them tend more or less towards one direction, as if still in motion. Some of the poles appear to be stock and block each other. Function is not available anymore. What is left, is a moment of expression – a reflex not under control.
The smaller sculpture looks at the larger sculpture. Its appearance is domintated by a lot of lines, thin lines, which seem very fragile. Once in a while some elements of the machine move slowly, in silence. An attempt, approaching the larger sculpture on the other side, barely noticable. The movements follow their own rhytms, the machine is not interacting with somebody else except of itself. Different patterns of movement exist, but the machine, alone, decides in which mood it wants to go. Controlled randomness allows moments of surprise.
